2026 Alanya International Culture, Arts & Tourism Festival: The Complete Guide

Every May, the coastal city of Alanya transforms into something even more alive than usual. The International Culture, Arts & Tourism Festival — organised by Alanya Municipality and running since 2001 — fills the harbour waterfront with music, art, food and people from across Turkey and the world. In 2026, the festival reaches its 24th edition, and it may just be the most impressive yet. Here is everything you need to know.

What Is the Alanya Culture, Arts & Tourism Festival?

Held annually in the last week of May, the Alanya International Culture, Arts & Tourism Festival is the city’s flagship cultural event. Organised by Alanya Municipality (Alanya Belediyesi) with support from the Alanya Tourism Promotion Foundation (ALTAV), the festival celebrates the city’s Seljuk heritage, Mediterranean identity and creative spirit through three packed days of free concerts, art exhibitions, traditional crafts, regional cuisine and international performances.

Each year the festival adopts a different theme — past editions have explored Seljuk history, Yörük nomadic culture, local weaving traditions and, most recently, the idea of ‘neighbourhood’ (Komşuluk). The 2026 theme has yet to be officially announced, but the format and ambition have never been larger.

2026 Festival: Key Highlights

Goran Bregović — Free Closing Night Concert

The headline announcement for 2026 is one that will resonate well beyond Alanya’s city limits. World-renowned composer and musician Goran Bregović — the Sarajevo-born artist whose Wedding & Funeral Orchestra has captivated audiences from the Balkans to the Sahara — will perform a free outdoor concert on the closing night of the festival, Sunday 24 May. Known for his cinematic Balkan brass sound and iconic collaborations with film directors including Emir Kusturica, Bregović draws tens of thousands wherever he plays. That this concert is free of charge is a remarkable gift to the city.

Alanya’s Most Ambitious Events Calendar Ever

The 2026 festival does not exist in isolation. Alanya Municipality has published what is reportedly the first fully planned, year-round events calendar by a Turkish city, covering more than 25 international and national events across the entire year. This sends a clear signal: Alanya is positioning itself not just as a summer destination, but as a year-round cultural hub. Other confirmed 2026 highlights include the 35th International Alanya Triathlon, the 20th International Jazz Festival, the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Challenge and the Tropical Fruit Festival.

Kültür Yolu Festival — Coming to Alanya for the First Time

Also confirmed for 2026: the Kültür Yolu (Culture Road) Festival, a major national cultural programme supported personally by Turkey’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, will be staged in Alanya for the first time in November. This brings another wave of concerts, exhibitions and cultural events to the city later in the year.

What to Expect at the Festival

The Opening Cortege Parade

Every edition begins with a festive street procession through the city centre — from Atatürk Avenue down to İskele Street. The parade includes school children, sports clubs, traditional dance groups, sister-city delegations, brass bands and decorated floats celebrating Alanya’s heritage. It is colourful, celebratory and very much a community event.

400+ Cultural and Gastronomic Stalls

The harbour area around İskele is transformed into a sprawling outdoor market with over 400 stands. Local producers bring Alanya’s famous bananas, almonds, olive oil and handmade crafts; regional gastronomy from neighbouring districts fills entire sections of the square; artisans demonstrate traditional weaving, woodworking and ceramics. It is free to enter and free to wander.

Art Exhibitions Across Historic Venues

The festival uses Alanya’s extraordinary architectural heritage as a gallery space. The iconic Kızılkule (Red Tower), the medieval Alanya Castle, the city’s Cultural Centre and ancient cisterns all host photography exhibitions, miniature art shows, local school artwork and archival displays. In previous years, exhibitions have explored 70 years of Alanya in photographs, traditional Alanya rugs and the history of the festival itself through its poster archive.

International Dance and Music Performances

Daytime stages feature folk dance ensembles from Turkey and abroad. Sister cities send delegations; in recent years Hungary’s National Dance Company, groups from across the Balkans and Central Asia have all performed at the festival. These daytime performances are informal, family-friendly and always well attended.

Free Evening Concerts

The headline concerts are the festival’s biggest draw. Held at Şelale Meydanı (Waterfall Square) on the harbour waterfront, they begin at 21:00 and run late. Admission is free. In recent years the festival has brought artists including Gipsy Kings, Can Bonomo, Bulutsuzluk Özlemi and Ziynet Sali to Alanya’s outdoor stage. In 2026, the closing night with Goran Bregović will almost certainly be the most high-profile performance in the festival’s history.

Getting to the Festival Venues

  • İskele Şelale Meydanı (main stage & stalls): Central Alanya waterfront — walkable from most hotels in the centre and Cleopatra Beach area
  • Kızılkule (Red Tower): Base of the castle promontory, 5 minutes on foot from İskele
  • Alanya Castle (Alanya Kalesi): Hilltop fortress — accessible by road (taxi/minibus) or a scenic walk from the peninsula
  • Alanya Cultural Centre: Central Alanya, near the main square
  • From outside Alanya: Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport (GZP) serves direct flights from many European cities in summer. Antalya Airport (AYT) is 135 km west, with regular bus and transfer services

Why the Festival Matters for Property Buyers

Events like this are not just entertainment — they are signals. When a city invests in a year-round cultural calendar, attracts world-class international performers and partners with the national government on cultural programming, it is saying something clear about its ambitions and its trajectory.

Alanya in 2026 is a city with a plan. The municipality’s decision to publish Turkey’s first fully mapped city events calendar is remarkable not just as a tourism strategy, but as a statement of confidence in the city’s future. Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik has described it as part of a 7 to 8-year strategic vision to make Alanya a branded international destination.

For property buyers, this context matters. A city that is actively building cultural infrastructure, attracting international visitors year-round and positioning itself on the global stage is one where property values have strong long-term foundations. The combination of a warm Mediterranean climate, affordable prices compared to western European coastal destinations, a large and established expat community and an increasingly rich cultural life makes Alanya one of the most compelling property markets in the region.

Whether you are looking for a holiday apartment near Cleopatra Beach, a permanent residence with mountain views, or an investment property with strong rental yield potential, the Alanya of 2026 is a different proposition from the seasonal resort town it was a decade ago. It is becoming, deliberately and successfully, something much more.
